We want church vehicles to be driven by people who are licensed, suitable, and understand our expectations. Being an “Approved Driver” doesn’t mean you must drive, but it means you are allowed to when needed.
This process outlines when approval is required, the necessary steps, and the procedure for obtaining approval.
You must be an Approved Driver if:
You want to drive the church bus, any church car or people mover.
You want to tow a church trailer with any vehicle.
You might be listed as a driver on a vehicle booking.
You only need to complete the process once, unless your details change (licence, medical info, etc.) or you are asked to update it.
Until you have received confirmation that you are an Approved Driver, you must not drive the bus or any other church vehicle.
Step 1 – Check with your leader
Talk to your Team Leader / Ministry Leader / Campus Pastor about why you need to be approved. For example:
Regularly driving youth to events
Helping with transport for kids' ministry
Driving the bus for camps or services
They can confirm that this fits your role and ministry responsibilities.
Step 2 – Complete the Driver Declaration & Licence Details Form
Go to this link and complete the form.
Ensure you read the driver commitments carefully, then sign and submit.
Step 3 – Send a copy of your driver's licence for approval
Send an image of the front and back of your licence to centralservices@centrepoint.church.
The Operations Manager will:
Review your form and any risk factors (e.g. serious past offences, recent suspension)
Verify your licence where possible
Confirm whether you are suitable to drive:
Standard vehicles
Bus
Towing a trailer
They may consult with your leader if there are any concerns.
You will then be:
Approved (with any conditions noted), or
Not approved / approval deferred (with reasons explained to you)
If approved, your details are added to the Approved Drivers Register.
You must let the Operations Manager know immediately if:
Your licence is suspended, cancelled or restricted
You change licence class (up or down)
You develop a medical condition or start medication that may affect driving
You are involved in a serious crash or charged with a serious driving offence (whether in a church vehicle or not)
Your driver approval may be reviewed or withdrawn if any of these occur.
Driving a church vehicle without current approval may be treated as a breach of our Vehicle Use Policy and managed in line with our staff expectations (including formal warnings where necessary).
