Before you drive a church vehicle, we expect you to do basic safety checks and to follow some simple principles while you are on the road.
This process explains what to do before, during and after using a vehicle.
Do a quick pre-start check:
Before the first trip of the day in that vehicle
Before longer trips or camps
Whenever you suspect a problem (e.g. a new noise, warning light)
It doesn’t need to be complicated, but it does need to be intentional.
Do a simple walk-around and interior check:
Outside the vehicle
Tyres look inflated and not obviously damaged
No visible leaks under the vehicle
No obvious body damage that could affect safety
Lights and indicators work
Inside the vehicle
Fuel level is enough for your trip (plus a margin)
No red/critical warning lights on the dashboard
Mirrors adjusted
Seat belts available and usable for every seat you’ll use
Windows and windscreen reasonably clear
If you’re using the bus
Emergency exits are accessible
Aisles and doorways are clear of bags and gear
Fire extinguisher and first aid kit are present
While you are driving, you are responsible for the safety of your passengers and other road users.
Please:
Obey all road rules and speed limits
Drive to conditions (slow down for rain, poor light, heavy traffic)
Ensure everyone is seated and wearing seat belts before moving
Avoid using your phone
Manage fatigue – take breaks on longer trips and do not drive if you are exhausted
Say no if you are pressured to rush, drive faster, or overload the vehicle
When you return from your trip:
Park the vehicle in the designated area and lock it.
Remove ALL rubbish and personal items.
Refuel to the level the gauge was when you collected the vehicle, or to 3/4 of a tank - whichever is higher.
Note any issues or damage.
Return keys to the lock box.
If you notice anything that could be a safety issue, please notify facilities@centrepoint.church as soon as possible so it can be addressed.
If you find something that makes the vehicle unsafe or illegal to drive (e.g. bald tyres, failing brakes, seat belts not working):
Do not drive the vehicle.
Clearly indicate it is out of service (e.g. hand keys to the office with a clear message).
Contact facilities@centrepoint.church to report the problem.
Please notify bookings@centrepoint.church if bookings will be affected.
